As a high school student, Celia was captivated by a lecture on Artificial Intelligence that would shape the course of her career. This early fascination led her to pursue a Computing Science degree, setting the foundation for a lifelong journey in technology. While her initial career focused on data, software engineering, and solution architecture, she found herself drawn back to AI over the past eight years, driven by the potential to solve meaningful business and societal challenges With over 25 years of experience with leadership, technical skills, and business acumen, the Chief of Innovation at Bits in Glass is a pioneer for innovation. The award “AI in Industry Award - AI Innovator of the Year” by Women in AI served as inspiration for younger women in the field, showing them that successful careers and significant accomplishments in AI are within reach

Wanderley wants to use AI to push boundaries so that it makes a meaningful difference in businesses and society. The path to AI innovation hasn't been without its hurdles. Despite increased interest and investment in AI adoption, many organizations still struggle with low maturity across strategy, data, talent, and governance. Within the past five years, many organizations have invested more interest and investments into adopting AI, but some of them struggle to successfully do this. For Wanderley, a focus on education, readiness, and upfront expectations will allow others to harness the potential of AI to further enhance societies and businesses.

The beauty of AI is that it has become this versatile technology that can be used for anyone’s benefit. Wanderley is one of several examples of women who encourage those in leadership to increase awareness, promote mentorship programs, set targets and question what can be done differently. You also do not have to be in a leadership position to advocate for evolution in the AI Industry; Wanderley encourages those who are passionate about AI should push boundaries to advocate for a diverse and inclusive field. Diversity and inclusion in the AI industry continue to evolve because there were many people like Celia who did not just wait for it to happen by chance.

Innovators like Celia Wanderley are excited and energized to use AI technology to become the pioneer of evolution for a better world. Wanderley encourages everyone to discover their passion, and to believe they can overcome any challenge while pursuing their passion. Interview by: Celia Wanderley
